Sponsored research and federal appropriations to SUNY set new records in FY 2001-02. The volume of research and other sponsored programs administered by the RF climbed approximately 18 percent to $570 million, continuing a six-year upward trend. Direct congressional appropriations to SUNY totaled $10.7 million in 2002, compared to $3.4 million in 2001.

The Research Foundation provided administrative support, including financial, human resources, procurement and reporting activities, for more than 9,000 sponsored programs, which employ over 21,000 people, in accordance with federal, sponsor, Research Foundation, SUNY and campus guidelines.
