Technology Transfer is the movement of novel inventions, discoveries, processes, techniques, devices, and substances developed at SUNY facilities to private organizations to be developed for commercial use. Technology Transfer is a "contact" sport and the main goal of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) directed by Dr. Guven Yalcintas, Vice President for Technology Transfer of the Research Foundation of State University of New York in Albany, is to build a team. The SUNY faculty (inventors) bring the science and technical expertise, and the TTO legal teams bring their knowledge of the patent process and other legal issues. Inventors receive 40 percent of the gross royalty received by the Research Foundation. In fiscal year 2000-2001, royalties generated by SUNY inventions exceeded $14.6 million. Inventors receive special recognition for submitting an invention disclosure and for being awarded a patent.
