| Guy has been an integral part of the Research Foundation (RF) family for the past nine years. His sense of humor, love of music and its related history, his historical knowledge about Buffalo and the African-American community in particular, and his relationships with BSC faculty, staff and students, has enriched the lives of all of us who have worked with him. As the unofficial greeter to all who enter the administrative offices, he has always provided a welcoming good morning as we enter the office to begin the work day and a hello to those seeking one of his colleagues. As the Information Systems Assistant , Guy provided the RF employees and Project Directors with computer technology assistance while maintaining the various software, hardware and related computer equipment. He is trained in Cisco router configuration, Microsoft Server and Exchange Server installation and administration as well as advanced PC repair and maintenance. In addition to his responsibilities at the RF, Guy served the campus community as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team CERT) for many years. His experience in the US Army Medical Corps, at the 45th field hospital surely contributed to the expertise in this capacity as well as his desire to help others. A U. S. Army Veteran, Guy voluntarily joined military service in 1961 receiving an honorable discharge in 1964 serving largely in Vicenza, Italy. In the mid 1990’s, Guy’s association with Buffalo State began in the STEP program where he tutored students twice a week in earth science, biology and physics. His college service also included tutoring in 1994 in Student Support Services and later, 1996 - 97 as the Residence Director and science instructor with the Upward Bound Program. Guy’s higher education focused in disciplines he enjoyed. In 1991, attending Erie Community College, he received an Associates degree in Dental Lab Technology. Continuing on Guy received a Bachelor’s degree in 1996 in Anthropology with a Minor in Biology at Buffalo State, and in 1999 completed Master’s degree work in Anthropology with a concentration in Historical Archeology at the University at Buffalo. Prior to coming to Buffalo State, Guy enjoyed a lengthy career in the radio broadcast and music promotion field. Through the mid to late 1960’s Guy could be heard on local stations WUFO and WBLK as morning or afternoon drive anchor. He was also the evening host at WVOL in Nashville. Through the 1970’s and early 80’s he also held positions as promotional director in Chicago, Baltimore, Washington and New York for various production and recording companies (Shelby Singleton Productions , Chess Records, Polydor Records and others). A self described Jazz enthusiast, Guy makes annual trips to Saratoga Springs to celebrate the Jazz Festival. He is a history buff of the BeBop form of Jazz. Please join his colleagues at the RF to thank Guy for his friendship and support over the past nine years, and we wish him good health and happiness in the next phase of life. |
