| Beijing Faculty Training Program begins with Spring 2009 Semester |

On February 16 and 17, the International and Exchange Programs office in cooperation with the Research Foundation and Center for China Studies eagerly welcomed the arrival of three visiting faculty as part of a collaborative initiative with the Beijing Teacher Training Center of Higher Education. A warm welcome is extended to Professor Song, Professor Yingmei and Professor Chen as the inaugural group of faculty to participate in the program at Buffalo State. Professor Song Hongyu is a faculty member in the Fine Arts School at Capital Normal University in Beijing. She will be working with co-mentors Dr. Richard Ross of the Design department and Dr. Lin Xia Jiang of the Fine Arts department. Professor Song’s research interests include primitive art, Chinese folk art and the creation of Chinese painting. Professor Yingmei Mao is a faculty member in the Special Education College at Beijing Union University. Her research interest is in the psychological development of children with special needs. Dr. Jill Norvilitis of the Psychology department is her mentor. Professor Chen Shubo is a faculty member in the English department at Capital Normal University. Dr. Mark Fulk of the English department is her mentor. Her research interest is literature of the English language. Beijing Teacher Training Program is an extension of the collaboration agreement between Capital Normal University and SUNY College at Buffalo and is sponsored by the Beijing Education Commission. The purpose of this research and training program is to provide young teaching staff with an opportunity to understand the teaching and research activities in the best universities around the world. The experience is expected to broaden their perspectives and increase their innovative abilities, as well as promote research cooperation and collaboration. Another group of faculty is expected to visit in the coming fall semester.
